HENDERSON, Ky. — The Community Foundation of Henderson welcomed the new year by awarding a record $40,000 in grants to five local nonprofit organizations through its Unrestricted Community Fund. The grants, announced during the Foundation’s New Year Celebration Giving Event, represented the largest distribution from the fund to date.
The grants supported projects that aligned with the Foundation’s mission of strengthening Henderson through charitable giving and community investment.
“Absolutely every request for funds was a worthy cause and project, which reveals just how great our nonprofits are in serving our community. It was difficult not to fund every request,” said Mark B. Weaver, President of the Community Foundation of Henderson.
2024 Grant Recipients

Habitat for Humanity of Henderson
Grant Award: $5,000
To continue the Habitat Voucher Program, which partners with local nonprofit agencies to provide vouchers for essential household items through the Habitat ReStore.
W.C. Handy Festival (Music Preservation Society)
Grant Award: $5,000
To support the 34th annual W.C. Handy Blues & Barbecue Festival celebrating Henderson native W.C. Handy, known as the “Father of the Blues.”
East Heights Elementary School
Grant Award: $7,500
To expand the school’s STREAM curriculum through hands-on learning tools including 3D printers, interactive learning equipment and engineering resources.
Junior Achievement
Grant Award: $7,500
To support the JA Miss Business program, helping young women develop leadership, entrepreneurship, financial literacy and STEM career skills.
St. Anthony’s Hospice
Grant Award: $15,000
To expand access to palliative care services for patients and families in Henderson.
“Not only does this celebrate the good work of our local nonprofits, but it also recognizes the generosity of donors whose gifts to the Unrestricted Community Fund make these grants possible year after year,” Weaver said.
